Southgates was established in Withernsea by Stephen Southgate in 1981, Practicing as S. R. Southgate Chartered Accountant. In 1984 the practice moved to its current location of Owthorne Manor on Hubert Street.
Antony Rookes started with the Southgates in September 1987 and studied for the Chartered Certified Accountant qualification. In June 1999, Antony Rookes became a partner and since then, the firm has practiced as Southgates Chartered Certified Accountants. Stephen retired on the 31 May 2001, but continues to be available as a consultant to the practice offering a wealth of knowledge and advice.
Andrew Guy joined the practice aged 16 after finishing his GCSEs and subsequently qualified first as Accounting Technician and then also took the Chartered Certified Accountants exams. Antony and Andrew have been in partnership since June 2011 and are always looking at ways to expand the practice whilst still offering a personal service to each of our clients.
The ethos of the practice is to act as more than a simple accountant whose clients see them at best once a year to complete a tax return. We aim to be available to our clients on a daily basis to help them with the running of their businesses and to remove the stress of having to deal with the business finances alone.
Southgates has always prided itself with its standard of training and actively encourages all staff to train for appropriate qualifications with the AAT, ATT and ACCA and follow on with our continued professional development.
Southgates are registered as Auditors and Approved Training Practice in the United Kingdom by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants
